The Town of Ajax, the Region of Durham and surrounding municipalities are marking National Hunger Action Month with a community food drive running September 9 to October 5, encouraging residents, businesses and community groups to donate non-perishable food and funds to local food banks, according to the town.
Donations can be dropped off at five Ajax locations: Ajax Town Hall at 65 Harwood Avenue South, McLean Community Centre at 95 Magill Drive, Ajax Community Centre at 75 Centennial Road, Audley Recreation Centre at 1955 Audley Road North, and the Ajax Public Library main branch at 55 Harwood Avenue South. Weekend drop-off is available at the three recreation centres and the library main branch.
Suggested items include rice, oats, cereal, pasta and pasta sauce, canned beans, vegetables, fish and meats, soup, peanut butter, and household essentials such as toilet paper and dish soap. Donations support the Christian Faith Outreach Centre, Community Development Council Durham, Salvation Army Ajax, Storehouse Foodbank and Durham Community Action Group.
