On October 7, 2023, West Division officers responded to a residence near Windsor Avenue and Elm Street in Ajax for a well-being check after concerns were raised about the welfare of an elderly woman and the possibility of elder abuse, according to DRPS.
Based on information provided by the victim, investigators from the DRPS Older Adult Support Investigative Services Unit (OASIS) investigated allegations of fraud and theft. Following the lengthy investigation, police determined the victim had suffered financial losses exceeding $400,000, and arrested the suspect without incident on September 29, 2026.
Christos Charalambous of Oshawa is charged with theft over $5,000, fraud over $5,000, and possession of proceeds obtained by crime over $5,000. He was released on an undertaking. DRPS says police are concerned there may be other victims and have released a photo of the accused; anyone with information is asked to contact D/Cst. Raposo of the OASIS unit at 905-579-1520 ext. 5617. The allegations have yet to be proven in court.
